Naza Can Bus Pinouts

Doing some tidying up on the quad the quad build, so decided to get some 4 pin JWT connectors.

Anyway this is the pic out from the can bus connector with it upside down.

These correspond to the OSD silkscreen text for easy if identification

Ground is brown – Top
Rx is yellow – 2nd down
TX is orange – 3rd down
5v is red – bottom

Mini UAV Talon Build #3

OK so I’ve documented the last two builds via various blogs and videos, this is just a quick collection of pictures and notes from build #3.

Few things to note on this build.

  1. As tidy external appearance as possible.
  2. GPS telemetry back to ground station using TBS Xfire Micro RX,.
  3. No extras in this build its a simple build and I’ve made it so i can remove the wings.
  4. No UBEC this time, the Hobbywing ESC has a 7amp UBEC built in.

Weaved motor wires to help reduce RFI/EMI interference.


Love hobbywing ESC’s real quality bits of kit and this will have the brake programmed for a better glide ratio.

Cut a small access hole to allow easy access to the ET Vector USB Port.

Decided to mount the TBS Micro Receiver in the aft portion of the plane on a small piece of foam, dipole mounted vertically.

Here you can see the BST connection from the ET Vecter GPS into the crossfire BST connector for telemetry back to the ground station.

Mounted the v2 GPS at the rear and flushed mounted it a little lower.

Nice and tidy with twisted cables where possible and here you can also see the Flytron Microphone for audio.

Bit of a random post this but thought i would measure the weight of a few antennas as i was calculating wing counterbalance weights.

Bit of NCR18650B testing done this week

4S1P – NCR18650B Discharge Tests cutoff @ 3V/cell
1.9Amp drain = 3005mah expended quickly recovers to 3.45v/cell off load – No temperature difference.
3Amp drain = 2800mah expended quickly recovers to 3.35v/cell off load – 8 degree Celsius temperature rise.

a 4S3P pack will be fine given that i can cruise on 4-6amps and take off is only 8amps.
4S1P pack = 196grams
so a 4S3P would be 590 grams giving me a useable 8400mah with conservative throttle use.

Closest traditional lipo i could find with a weight of under 590grams is a turnigy nano-tech 4S5000mah

Soldering could do with being better,.

ZMR250 Build PID Tuning Pt1

Finally got the 250 built with the following hardware

ZMR250 with Motormania extended arms
T-Motor 2206 2000KV motors DAL 6×4.5 Props
LittleBee 20A ESC BLHELLI 14.2
Rev 6 Naze32 running latest stable BorisB BetaFlight.
FrSky D4R-ii RX
HS1177 600TVL Camera
Lumenier Race band 5.8Ghz VTX

Quick post build video below – Before anyone comments YES im moving the VTX antenna this was just temporarily mounted for testing purposes.

So first of all i made sure all 4 ESC’s were calibrated and configured the same and as im using the latest BorisB & Naze32 i can configure them with the BLHelli suite through the Naze32 USB port 🙂
This also enabled me to hardwire the ESC’s and change motor direction using the software. Below is my BLHeli Config

Please bare in mind i’m new to Naze32 and mini quads so my configs might not be right, its a learning curve i’m going through right now.

Here is my cleanflight PID’s which again arnt right as im getting small oscillations on the pitch and roll which you can see in the video at the bottom of the post

Alien X-Mode Quad v2 Endurance Build Pt3 (Motors & Legs)

Back again and more progress made although I’m still waiting for RC-LOG to release the new v2 Vector Glonas GPS module so I’m kind of in no rush.

OK so last time i mentioned the fact that I’m going to use SunnySky 600KV motors instead of the original 470KV Tigers well here we have some pictures and thoughts on the motors.

Here we see the 470KV right and the Sunny 600KV on the left, the SunnySky’s are slightly heavier, and as you can see wider.

The build quality is nice and having span them up on a test rig the bearings sound smooth, the windings look nice and tight as well.

Below you can see the size difference while mounted on the Aeroxcraft X55 arms.

The legs have finally been cut down and mounted to the bottom plate of the frame along with the carbon fibre lipo tray. I plan to use 4S5000mah lipos although there is space and the airframe will lift a 4S8000mah lipo as well Smile

First you can see how i marked out the extra holes for the alloy leg mounts.

Alien X-Mode Quad v2 Endurance Build Pt3… Motors Props and AUW considerations.!!

Well what can i say apart from I’m a Muppet, my original plan was to use 470KV motors
and 14” props on the Aeroxcraft X55 arms.. How wrong could i be.!!!
14” wont fit, and neither will 13”s Sad smile check this out below … Argghh.!!

So after much deliberation i thought the hell with it go with 12” props and MN3508 580KV motors .. But oh wait..,. Nowhere in the UK has them in stock ..Grr!!.

The quad gods are definitely not on my side, so eventually managed to order some SunnySky 4108 600KV motors.

Ecalc comparisons below, shouldn’t loose too much efficiency.
Top is 470KV with 13”x5.5” props and bottom is 600KV with 12”x5.5” props.

Alien X-Mode Quad v2 Endurance Build Pt2, Lipo Tray & Legs

OK so a little more progress now and much more deliberation Smile

So in this blog I’m just putting thoughts down on my lipo tray positioning and the landing legs.

Originally i was going to have the leg mounts near the centre but this wouldn’t make it very stable on the ground so I’ve decided to move them front and rear.

This also leaves good room for the lipo tray to be placed leaving most flexibility for CoG of the battery. The tray will have 3M Dual lock Velcro as well as a Velcro strap so the battery isn’t going to budge an inch.

Anyway enough gas from me, time for some pictures eh Smile

The legs will be cut down to half original size to bring the frame closer to the ground once completed.

Below we have where my original plan was but this would’ve made the tray mounting difficult.


And here we have the final mounting position, just need to drill 4 holes for the leg mounts and 4 for the lipo tray.

Alien X-Mode Quad v2 Endurance Build Pt1(Drone,UAV FPV)

So after my previous Alien 500 build which utilised X50 Aeroxcraft DJI style arms i decided it was time for a v2 Smile

This time bigger better more flight times and a better build so here we are once again at the start of what promises to be more sleepless nights mulling over which way to go.

This time round I’m going for X55 arms which will allow me to use 13” CF props, i originally hoped to be able to use 14” props but this isn’t the case, they clear the frame its just that the rear props hit the fronts Sad smile

I wanted better landing gear this time as well so have opted to fabricate some out of cut down GF-L2 Carbon Fibre landing gear from an H4-680 frame.

So 13×5.5 CF Tiger style props will be swung by Tiger MN3110 470KV motors being ran by HobbyWing Xrotor 40Amp ESC’s.

Flight controller will be a Naza M flashed to V2 with PMUv2 and iOSD Mini for the OSD.

Going to try and keep weight AUW inc lipo to 1.5KG, with a 4S5000mah lipo i should be able to get 20 minutes flying .

Thumbscrews for the landing gear should i need to remove the legs.


Naza mounted on the top empty PDB and the ESC’s will be plumbed into the bottom PDB along with any accessories like navigation lights or strobes,.


All 4 arms fitted (dry) looking good allready.


Quick weigh session, this is with all 4 ESC’s and the Tiger motors mounted. 920grams
